Jamaica is beautiful (Jamaican foods)

Hey guys Nericia here with another post under the feature, jamaica is beautiful. In a subsequent feature, we looked at some beaches and rivers that you must visit if you ever get the chance. In this feature, we will be talking about some of the foods that you must try when you go. Now food is a big part of Jamaican culture, we love our pepper and spices, and we definitely can't do without our herbs and seasonings.

Some of our main spices are

Jerk seasonings, Paprika, Garlic Powder, Black pepper, Season to the bone, and pimento just to name a few.

We also love these herbs and seasonings

Eskellion, thyme, tomatoes, Cho Cho, sweet pepper, scotch bonnet peppers...and more

For the flavors that go with different foods, it's all in the seasoning. Most people like to season meats and seafood overnight so that all the seasoning can seep through and make the end result much better.

Jamaicans love curry, we practically curry almost every meat.
You have curried chicken, or beef, fish, saltfish, and lots more. I have even tried curried pork. Yes, pork can be curried as well.
Here are a few pictures of curried meals

       Curried Salfish                                            Curried Shrimp

We also enjoy fried items, like chicken, fish, and saltfish.

Fried Fish
Fried Saltfish

We also enjoy boiled foods like yams, potatoes, cassava, dasheen, cocoa, and green banana.

We also enjoy a variety of different porridges like Hominy( corn) porridge, cornmeal porridge, Banana and plantain porridge, peanut porridge.

GARLIC AS AN ANTIBIOTIC

Hey guys, Nericia here with another in the series of how garlic helps me and my family.

Garlic is known for its antibiotic properties.

By now everyone who has read my post would have figured by now that I really like garlic and its health benefits. So it helps me sleep comfortably, it lowered my high blood pressure and I now have an example of how it helped to clear a lot of cold from my son's chest.

Christiano was a vibrant two-year-old, he is my third child and my baby. He loved to use his little hands to draw things from the dresser and loved putting things in his mouth. He loved cold beverages. Instead of waking up and wanting tea, he would always prefer juice. It seemed like he did not like heated or warmed things one bit as I always had to force him to drink porridge or any other warm substances. As soon as he got juice or drink he would drink it all off. Most times he wanted to feed himself sometimes wetting his whole chest area. He did not like to wear clothes, as soon as you put on his shirts he would get fussy and just cry and cry. He never liked wearing socks either. When the socks went on he would take them off and hide them.

I soon realized that he had a rattling breathing sound anytime I had him near to me. He also developed a horrid sounding cough, that made his eyes water and a lot of mucus would spew from his little mouth. Then it got to the point where he started wheezing. I had no idea that a child who did not have asthma could wheeze. He started doing it so bad I had to take him to the hospital. They immediately placed him on an oxygen machine and stabilized him. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics and cold and flu medications. I bought them immediately and started working on them. At first, it seemed to work and my son could go for longer periods without a coughing fit. Then he started wheezing again after a few weeks and I had to take him back to the doctor. They took care of him and prescribed more medication and said that when those meds were finished I should fill the prescription again. I did not want to have to feed my child on constant medications that seemed to not be working.

Feeling frustrated and wondering what to do next I called my mother. She was surprised that he still had a cold and that the medication was not helping. She advised me to take him back to the doctor. She said that maybe he had a chest cold and the medication was not effective enough to clear it off. I told her I am tired of going to the hospital. She said that when she was young her sister had a cold that would not go away, she said that her mother would mix a contraption of garlic and honey mixture and would feed her with a tablespoon full two times a day.

Now I was very skeptical to try this in my two years old but after watching him suffer for so long I figured I would give it a try for a few days. So I stopped giving him the meds prescribed by the doctor and placed honey and garlic into a glass jar and let it sit for a whole day. I used a whole head of garlic beaten and a small bottle of honey that contained 10 tablespoons.

In the evening before my son went to bed I gave him his juice and then decided to try him with the mixture of honey and garlic, I had to fight it down his throat and asked my older kids to take some and let him see so that he would take it. After about three days I was able to give him in the morning and evening, he started getting used to the taste. After a week I realized that his breathing was not heavy and raspy anymore and he did not wheeze. I continued the regime one tablespoon in the morning and one at night, and after two weeks my son's cold was gone. His nose was not blocked up he was breathing normally and the coughing was gone. I was so relieved to have finally found something that really worked for him.

I am not a doctor nor did I take any medicinal courses, just writing about my personal experiences... Enjoy your day and chin up...

LOCKDOWN IN JAMAICA

Hey guys Nericia here, how are you doing today? I hope you are having a good time. I am just writing to tell you of my experience with being in lockdown in Jamaica.

I am normally an indoorsy person, I like to watch movies and series and just chill inside.

On my rare occasions of venturing out of my home it's normally to pick up something to eat at the corner shop (these are small shops that are normally inside persons home or at their gates.)  or wholesale (a shop that is bigger than the corner shop normally located at or near the main road, this supplies the smaller shops with goods and normally sell stuff at a cheaper cost. Normally opens at 9am and closes at 5pm). The corner shops don't have a specific closing or opening time and normally just depends on when the owner is ready to go to bed. During the time of the government-imposed curfews though if they are caught opened after the curfew hours they are going to be charged. The charges are normally very massive.

Example of a corner shop

Example of a corner shop

In Jamaica, there are times when there is a flareup of violence and crime in an area and the government normally locks down that particular area. There is also a curfew imposed in some areas as well. This also happens to try to stem the crime and violence in a specific area. So basically we are used to these terms, especially if you live in one of the volatile areas. I don't live in these areas but normally hear that there has been a lockdown imposed on areas nearby through the media or from friends or family.

Since the pandemic hit last year there have been many lockdowns and curfews imposed on the island. At first, when there were only a few cases, we were encouraged to stay home or if we did have to go out we were advised to stay safe and wear a mask. Then as the cases got more and more there was a more serious measure placed on travel and movements. Then full-on curfews where you had to be off the streets by 10pm. Then there came the holidays. People were still flocking the beaches and resorts on the holidays so the government decided to close the beaches and rivers. Also to close down places that would have lots of crowds like bars and churches and also cut down the number of persons allowed to attend funerals.

Picture of a funeral

In jamaica attending church is a big thing, burials are kept like dances and so would attract a huge group of persons who came to pay their last respects. These were all cut down to only 10 attendees at the church, and the actual placing of the coffin in the hole.

Then there came all-day lockdowns, we have not been able to enjoy not one holiday since last June. All the schools are closed and there is basically nothing to do anymore. Dances and parties that are also a huge part of Jamaican culture have been taken away. We are now forced to accept and adapt to our new way of life.

Lockdown thought me that when covid is no more that I should take life by its tail and let it drag me anywhere the wind blows. Im going to be an outdoorsy person after this to make up for all the lost times. Until next time.... stay safe

How Garlic Helps Me With High Blood Pressure

Hey guys, how are you doing today, I hope all is in the best of health, I am just here with another of my personal experiences with garlic.

I have three beautiful kids as I may have mentioned in previous articles. They are 12-year-old Olivia, 10-years-old Damion, and 8 years old Christiano. I really love my kids and even though I have the task of raising them on my own, I still enjoy every single moment. I had all three by natural birth in Jamaica my home country.

The two older ones were born in Kingston and the youngest one was born in Montego bay as that is where I was living at the time. I had a toxic relationship with their dad and that forced me to move around a lot. I have been on my own with them for almost eight years and it seems to have been the best decision I have ever made. Sometimes it is hard and I am sad but, you have to love yourself first.

So I have never been affected by pressure, I was always a normal healthy person, I have never been admitted to the hospital for more than one day.

That all changed when I got pregnant with my third child, I realized that unlike the first two pregnancies I was sick all the time. My feet were swollen all the time, I was very emotional. I used to cry for no reason, I would just sit and start crying and feel miserable and uncomfortable. I was afraid that something was going wrong so when I was 4 months old I went to the clinic because I felt like I was getting worst. I saw my doctor and as I was telling her what was going on she asked me if I was having frequent headaches and if I felt sleepy a lot. I told her yes, and told her that I sometimes felt like my tongue was too heavy for my mouth. She did some tests and also did a Blood pressure check. My level was way too high she prescribed me some medication and kept me in the hospital for the night to help to lower the pressure. The next day I was free to go, and from that day on, I have been affected by pressure. I always heard that garlic is good to stabilize pressure and so I started adding a little more to my diet. I drank tea,  crushed it, and ate it, I even added a little extra to my meals. I must say that it has been two months and I have not had a high-pressure reading. My doctor is stumped as to what could lower my pressure so much and normalize it. Now I am not a doctor I have never studied medicine but as I said this is one of my personal experiences with garlic. Thank you for reading and God Bless you.

DON'T YOU EVER GIVE UP

Good day all, I am blessed to be able to sit here and be able to write a blog post. There are so many people this morning that do not have the privilege to do so, and I am so glad that I am able to.

I have been trying so hard to come to terms with this covid pandemic and how it has affected so many people all over the world. I have never seen so many deaths and heard of so much suffering and pain from people from all over the world. It sometimes leaves me feeling so sad. I have personally lost two persons to this monster and I truly hope that I do not lose anyone else.

I woke up this morning feeling so stressed, another Friday and I have so many bills to pay and there is no money in my account. I have used up all my resources there is no food in my house. I am literally broke and I have too many bills I don't even know where to start.

Have you ever been here, have you been at the point where you start asking yourself what's next? asking god where he is and what's happening in your life. You feel as if the walls are closing in on you and no matter how hard you try to push they are so heavy you feel burdened down. What will I do, how will I pay that bill, how is the landlord going to take this, what will I say?

At some point or the other, a lot of us go through these phases. We either lose our jobs, or can't get a job, or have trouble keeping a job. You try to start a little business and it's just so hard, you work until you are so tired and yet still nothing seems to work out. You go on the internet you try to find something you just can and all you feel like doing is give up. I feel that way a lot and I know a lot of persons do too.

The best thing is that you are alive and you are still able to do something. The only thing that keeps me going is faith that God is able to do marvelous things. god through me is able to touch someone's life, God through me is able to go places that no one else can. God can fix all the things that need to be fixed. Keep praying and praising and pushing and fighting your breakthrough is coming, and it will be massive, go ahead and claim it in the mighty name of God our lord. Don't waste your time in self-doubt and thoughts of giving up or throwing in the towel, god will sure make a way. You will be ok.

Thank you for reading and have a great day.

I sometimes am not ready for the challenges that come with this thing called life but, I am most certainly grateful to be alive. I may have jumped into blogging and did not even introduce myself properly. I do apologize and I am going to start all the way over.

My name is Nericia Robinson, I am a 32-year-old single mother of three beautiful kids. Olivia my eldest and only girl is 12 years old, a little model and fashionista who loves taking photos of herself. She is a very good little girl she is doing well in class loves to read and sing. Loves to dance and watch cartoons and music videos. Her favorite singers are Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.

Picture

My second child and first son Damion just turned 10 years old, quiet and loving and loves to play games. A big fan of the stay-at-home measure imposed by the government. He just loves the indoors. Enjoys watching Roblox and Minecraft and all those other games kids watch these days. Loves to smile and laugh. Mr knows it all does very well in school. Looks too much like me, my young twin.

Picture

Then there is the baby, my eight-year-old son who thinks that I belong to only him. He loves to sit on my lap. Very loving and loud and loves to watch tv. Christiano loves to dance and do some crazy moves that he made up. Very outspoken and a handful. Prides himself on being the youngest and the rudest. Cute and quirky and always has an opinion. Very fiesty and loves the outdoors, very helpful, his help sometimes turns into a disaster because he wants to do things his way and that's normally the wrong way. I love them all to bitsies.

So as I was saying, 32 years old single mom of three, loves to laugh and sing and dance. Love to go out with my kids. Love to watch series about love and fantasy, recently lost my job due to the covid 19 pandemic. Currently seeking a job as work from home mom. This is not easy. Most things are limited because of my location. I live in Jamaica. I started trying a lot of stuff, Affiliate marketing, blogging, online texting jobs, none of which has paid off as yet by the way, but I'm still holding the faith. I hope all is well with each and everyone who stopped by to read my post and I pray God's Blessings continually reign on your life. Have a good day.

Until next time....stay safe

Hey there
